Look at Lily Kwong, a 22 year old Chinese girl, you can feel the power of youth.

Young Lily is not alone in New York. Joseph Altuzarra, one of the most popular designers in New York, is Lily's cousin.


This is an exclusive interview with cousins.

At the filming site, Lily and Joseph are like a pair of dead friends.

But Joseph himself tends to avoid fashion activities such as red carpet.

He is no longer a hermit. As a designer, he knows more than anyone. Fashion is like a social circle. His image represents the image of a brand.

However, for him, communication and overexposure are essential differences.

He attributed the character he did not like talking about private to the education he received in France.

Once he gets off work, he no longer considers work related matters.

Even with their peer friend Alexander Wang, they rarely talk about work.

Alexander is often compared to Joseph, no matter how old or famous.

Joseph spoke highly of this talented friend, but in his view, their friendship did not create fashion related matters.

Because of this, you seldom hear Joseph and Alex discuss fashion.

"We don't talk much about work," he said. "Although we occasionally ask each other professional questions, our friendship is built on the basis of mutual respect rather than competition."

Joseph felt comfortable with his contacts. He repeatedly emphasized that he cherished his like-minded friends of the same age.

"I like those who open your heart to you and don't worry about hurting you.

I appreciate their honesty and integrity.

He recalled his time in Givenchy as a design assistant.

For a long time, he did not forget the good times he spent with the team.

On the eve of the show, their work is very heavy, but the studio always laughs, often until the last minute before the conference, they are still playing noisy, until the release can not stop.

Sometimes, the last model was coming out of the stage. They were sewing clothes for the next model, but no one was worried because everyone was having fun while working.

Joseph frankly, there is not so much "last minute" critical moment in his brand publishing, but laughter in the team is still his winning magic weapon.


Won the CFDA award in 2011, the design series has been well received, and has a huge star consumer group - Joseph, 29, has never been proud.

He said: "I think you have to give yourself plenty of time! Before I started my business, I decided to work for others for a while.

During this period, you should learn to learn from experience and learn from public relations, production and sales.

The road is rather tortuous.

He grew up in Paris. His father was French and his mother was Chinese American.

After growing up, Joseph left her parents and went to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania to study art history.

There is no doubt that art and fashion have an inseparable relationship, but as an art history student, Joseph did not start the idea of being a designer at the very beginning.

Not until the end of his studies did he realize that he liked fashion design more and more.


Reminiscent of the scene, he laughs that he is only a child when he is in touch with the fashion.

Clothes can turn a silent person into the focus of a dance at the moment - Joseph is unbelievable for such a magical effect.

"I always want to make myself look cool and cool," he said with a smile. "Though the result may not be really cool."


The dream changed quickly, but the first step out of Joseph was very enviable: practice at Marc Jacobs.

This experience almost changed his life, giving him the chance to become a freelance designer assistant of Proenza Schouler, working with designer Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.

Later, he was added to Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci to become a design assistant.

Before long, he boasted that everyone would see his success in the competitive fashion world.

Also because the career started too coveted, inevitably aroused the outside discussion.

Fortunately, he did not break his promise, and the great aspiration of that year has now been realized.

The design and business approach she learned from Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler has benefited Joseph, but he said Riccardo's guidance has played a more important role in his design career.

"This experience is unbelievable.

When I first entered Givenchy, I was very young, but I already had rich experience.

Riccardo gave me the chance to help and test me like a mentor.

Joseph learned the skills of tailoring and wrinkling in Givenchy. Until now, these skills still play a great role in his design.

In New York, Joseph works like a Frenchman, but this alone makes him believe that he will do well in the future.


"Breaking through all bondage"


Success came too suddenly.

When he was working at Givenchy, he met with Carine Roitfeld.

As the first person to encourage him to develop his career, shortly after he showed his new series to New York fashion week, Carine appeared in Paris fashion week in his design.

This live advertisement made Joseph overnight and became a new star in the fashion industry.


In today's fashion industry, the only person with such magic is Carine Roitfeld.

She saw the extraordinary design of Joseph and promoted a nameless person at risk. Ever since then, the whole industry and even the whole world have discovered this young man.

Joseph is not very old, but the object of his costume design is not limited to his peers or a certain type of woman.

Joseph said that so far, the autumn and winter series in 2011 had special significance for him, but this does not mean that his other works are mediocre.

He said: "this series has expressed a beautiful desire, which can better reflect the characteristics that I want people to see from the Altuzarra brand, and this is what customers want to see.

In this series, many clothing designs have been very successful, and Parker coats are one of them.

We have tried a lot of changes both in fashion and other aspects.

1/4 new king of Chinese descent


As a company, the successful development of Altuzarra is inseparable from the influence of the Internet. Although Joseph does not know much about most social media and platforms, he has deeply realized the help of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and blogs. He has also tried to use these platforms to express their opinions indefinite.

Joseph said: "if my show has another vacancy and must choose one among magazine editors and fashion bloggers, I will choose the latter."

This is not a prejudice against the printing industry, but because the exposure on the blog is more assured and has a more rapid impact.


"I admire those fashion bloggers very much, because they often have many interesting and inspiring ideas, like Tommy Ton, I admire him very much."

He said.


Joseph attaches importance to the platform provided by blogs for designers. Through this platform, his products can be promoted.

But he also gradually felt that the Internet brought more fear to him than fun and attraction.

Joseph wants to provide his products to customers, but he doesn't want to disclose his personal life too much.


Of course, he is not totally unwilling to share details of his life, such as the way to spend his time after work (recently, rest is a luxury for him).

Joseph cherishes the days of living in New York. Even though he just goes shopping, goes to an art gallery or meets friends, he feels very happy.

Going out with friends is Joseph's biggest hobby.

"This is different from doing pottery and learning Taekwondo."

He said.


He also likes to try new dishes in a new restaurant. Recently, he often goes to a restaurant called Red Farm.

He said: "in the Tribeca area of New York, the food of Italian restaurant Dell" Anima "and" Japanese restaurant Takahashi "are excellent.

But do you know what I like best? Small restaurants! Who doesn't like a menu with 15 pages? "He praised the roadside cafe as a truly new Yorker.


From New York to China, Joseph's business grew very fast, which surprised him.

New York is the birthplace of Altuzarra, but China is the place where Joseph truly shows its individuality.

He himself has 1/4's Chinese ancestry, so he hopes to know more about China.

"The changes in China, especially in Shanghai, have a great impact on global fashion and I can enjoy it."

He said.

Although he has not been to China so far, his design will be unveiled at THE VILLA, Shanghai independent fashion store, and opened for sale in China for the first time.

There is no doubt that his trip to China has also been included in the latest itinerary.
