Filament business continues its long downward trend.

In January 2008, the fire of Glanzstoff in vio land further worsened the situation.

Due to the technical and infeasible economic situation, Glanzstoff group decided to stop production of its St. Plten plant by the end of 2008.

Dull demand also forced Century Textiles & Industries Ltd. to suspend viscose production at the end of February 2009.

Enka group also plans to close its production of textile viscose yarn in Elsterberg, Germany, which was established in 1909 and closed at the end of June 2009, because the order is reduced by more than 20%.

Although nonwovens, textiles and flame retardant products have been in great demand for viscose staple fiber, viscose staple fiber has been negatively affected by overcapacity. Since September 2006, the price gap between viscose staple fiber and polyester staple fiber has been increasingly unfavourable.

The production of viscose staple and filament decreased by 13% in 2008.

That year increased 86000 tons of capacity, most of which were staple fibers.

filament

Capacity increased by only 30000 tons.

Short fiber production decreased by 13%, while filament production decreased by 9%.
