Soochow University In Laos: Building A Bridge For Scientific And Technological Cooperation Between The Two Countries

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. For Soochow University in Laos, the past 10 years have also been a golden decade of "going out", "taking root" and "bearing fruit" by taking advantage of the development trend.

Not long ago, with Suzhou University in Laos moving into a new campus, this first overseas university approved by the Chinese government, after several generations of Soviet adults' unremitting efforts for more than 10 years, created a precedent for Chinese universities to run schools overseas.

As the representative of Chinese universities running schools abroad, Soochow University in Laos not only carries the friendship and hope of the two peoples, but also shoulders the responsibility of promoting people to people connections and helping the construction of the "Belt and Road". It is not only a school, but also a window and a bridge.

In 2017, under the leadership of Soochow University in Laos, Soochow University signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Lao government, committed to helping the Lao people shake off poverty and become rich through Soochow University's advanced mulberry planting and silkworm rearing technology, and constantly expanding and strengthening the green silk industry. The next year, the project expert working group of the Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology and Ecology of Suzhou University went to Laos to carry out the project site selection, industrial planning, condition assessment, etc.

In the following three years, the working group integrated and innovated China's excellent sericulture production technology, carried out about 10 hectares of window production demonstration in Vientiane, Laos, established a replicable production model, carried out mulberry seedling raising, cultivation, silkworm egg incubation and other technical demonstration and training, and cultivated a number of practical modern sericulture technology backbones for Laos.

Suzhou University in Laos has also cooperated with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos to establish the "China Laos Green Silk Research Center", and has built a 1200 mu silkworm plantation using the silkworm breeding technology in Suzhou, China, to help Laotian farmers shake off poverty and become rich. Up to now, this project is the only silk science and technology project in Laos.

"Talents and science and technology are the important foundation and core resources to promote the construction of the" Belt and Road ". Colleges and universities have important functions such as talent training, scientific and technological innovation, and shoulder an important mission in serving the" Belt and Road "initiative." Zhang Xiaohong, secretary of the Party Committee of Suzhou University, said that as countries along the "Belt and Road", China and Laos are connected by mountains and rivers and share the same philosophy. Facing the future, Suzhou University in Laos will build a broader platform for international cooperation, serve the economic and social development of China and Laos, and jointly promote China's higher education to move towards Asia and the world.
