70 years ago, when new China was just founded. The United States also launched a cotton war against China. However, China played a set of combo fists, and in the end, American cotton withdrew from China. In 1945, the Anti Japanese war ended. With the help of the government of the Republic of China, American cotton quickly occupied the Chinese market. The area of Shaanxi cotton area, which supported China's cotton textile industry, decreased by 65% from 1946 to 1947, and a large number of cotton farmers went bankrupt.

The United States also used its control of 3 million pieces of Japanese residual spindles and American made cotton fabrics to Nanyang for competitive sale, resulting in the shrinkage of the traditional sales market of Chinese cotton cloth, handkerchief and towel.
This led to the fact that when the people's Republic of China was founded, China's textile industry could only rely on American cotton. However, the import of American cotton needed to be purchased with precious foreign exchange. At that time, China had a huge deficit. Therefore, the United States wanted to take advantage of China's economic emptiness and hope to take advantage of the "cotton dependence" of China's textile industry to control China.
However, at that time, China did not compromise with the United States like the Republic of China. After investigation, it was found that Hubei Province was very suitable for planting cotton. In addition, due to historical reasons, a large amount of cotton was stored in the hands of farmers for price reasons. After variety improvement, it could completely replace American cotton and become the raw material for spinning. In addition, the farmers in the traditional cotton producing areas also had cotton deposits, which met the needs of China at that time.
With the support of the state, the cotton production conditions in Hubei Province have been continuously improved, and the cotton yield and quality have been improved accordingly. During the 46 years from 1949 to 1994, the average annual lint yield was 324000 tons, 2.69 times higher than that of the 30 years before the founding of new China (1919-1948).
Since there is no money, China made use of the contradiction between Britain and the United States to put forward the barter trade mode of "advanced export, then export". The advanced export products first arrive at Shanghai and other domestic ports, and then the corresponding barter products are shipped out. With its own raw silk, tea, tin ore and tungsten ore, a large number of India, Pakistan, Australia cotton and British cotton spinning machinery are exchanged. This led to the failure of the US plan to control China with cotton.
In 1950, with the outbreak of the Korean War, the United States banned the export of cotton to China because it was an industrial raw material for manufacturing automobile tires, telephone lines, sails and even high-grade explosives. However, China cleverly used the gap period to import a large number of cotton flowers. In August 1950, the US export to China soared from US $3 million the previous month to US $8.9 million, 95% of them are raw cotton.
In the face of the blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States, China actively called on the whole country to plant cotton. At that time, because people had been planting local cotton for a long time, they had no confidence in planting new varieties of American cotton. For this reason, many places in the south of the Yangtze River promised to exchange six and a half catties of cotton for each catty, and they could trade freely. Once upon a time, some cadres worked out detailed accounts for the villagers, planting 350 Jin of rice per mu of rice, while a mu of cotton field could receive 150 Jin of cotton, which could be exchanged for more than 300 Jin of rice. In 1953, American cotton withdrew from the Chinese market.
In the cotton war with the United States, China skillfully played a combination of fists, which not only met the needs of the domestic textile industry, but also failed the plan of the United States to control China with cotton. Later, under the thorough sanction of the United States, China vigorously planted cotton, but let the American cotton withdraw from the market.
