Fashion Spring Series Started Well, UNIQLO Japanese Market Sales Increased Slightly In February
Due to the warmer weather in recent months, Uniqlo, a fast fashion giant in Japan, is not having a good time. The good news is that UNIQLO said on Tuesday that the performance of its Japanese stores in February has improved.
UNIQLO's sales growth in Japan is not large. The company said its sales in the Japanese market, including online sales, grew by 0.8% over the same period in February 2020, while total sales, including online sales, increased by 0.3% over the same period last year.
The current weather conditions seem to be in line with expectations. UNIQLO said that the launch of spring products was very popular last month. The number of Japanese customers increased slightly, basically flat with the same period last year, and the average purchase volume of each customer has also risen.
In addition, UNIQLO closed two direct stores in Japan in February.
The warm weather in January affected the sales of warm clothing of UNIQLO, and its parent company Xun marketing group lowered its annual performance expectations in the first quarter. At that time, operating profit in the fiscal year ended August 31st will drop by 5% to 245 billion yen.
In addition to Japan, the sale of UNIQLO relies heavily on China, and the new crown virus epidemic is threatening the Chinese market. The company said a few days ago that its more than 100 stores in China have resumed business in the past week, but there are still 125 stores closed.
