Analysis: Two Key Words Of The Revival Of American Apparel Industry: "Comfort" And "Shape".
NPD Group, the US market research firm, released the latest "The Future of Apparel" report. In the next two years, the apparel retailing industry in the United States will be revived under the impetus of the sales growth of sportswear, swimsuit, pajamas and dresses.
The report predicts that consumer spending on clothing will continue to decline in 2019, but it will increase slightly by 2021. The main reason is that consumers' dual demand for "comfort" and "physical" will stimulate sales growth of sports and leisure fashion products.
In fact, some of the categories have shown a clear upward trend. In the 12 months ending May 2019, NPD's Consumer Tracking Service (consumer tracking service) statistics showed that the total sales of sportswear and sports pants increased by 8% to 23 billion 600 million US dollars. During the same period, sales of pajamas category increased 2% to 7 billion 800 million dollars under the promotion of household clothes.
In addition, sales of dresses fell 3% to $15 billion in the past 12 months, but NPD predicts that by 2021, the growth of the relatively new "sports skirt" category will make up for the overall decline of this category.
Swimsuits also showed a downward trend in the past 12 months, slipped 4% to 5 billion 800 million dollars. NPD believes that the main reason for this decline is that the United States is late in the summer and is confident that swimsuits can resume growth in the next two years and become one of the main driving forces for the growth of the garment industry.
Marshal Cohen, chief industry consultant at NPD, said: "the key to the success of the garment industry in the future is to look at sportswear sportswear. Consumers are eager for fashion and do not want to sacrifice the comfort and convenience of their existing sportswear.
"Sportswear is gradually replacing the traditional jacket with comfort and stylish. The integration of the body into the swimsuit design will further boost the sales growth of swimwear," Marshal Cohen said. "Today's fashion is characterized by practical simplicity. This is the formula that the entire garment industry can and should adopt.
In fact, the transition from pure sportswear to fashion sportswear has long been a symptom. Since the early autumn of this year, the 2019/20 autumn and winter fashion series released by various brands have been combined with classic tailoring, fitting female curves, but comfortable and easy to design.
