Recently, the European Union announced

standard

The EN 1811:2011 amendment provides a detailed description of whether the nickel release from jewelry and other metal parts exposed to skin for long time meets the requirements.

The new standard will be more conducive to help judge whether the product meets the relevant requirements of annex XVII of REACH regulations.

Nickel is a common metal, widely used.

Such products as metal alloy accessories, such as buttons, zippers, rivets, clothing accessories and ornaments, jewelry, etc.

But nickel is a substance that is easy to cause contact allergy. After long term contact with skin, it will be absorbed and sensitized by the skin.

In European clothing, shoes and other daily necessities, if the materials contain nickel containing metal excipients, it is generally required to test the standard release of nickel.

The previous standard EN 1811:2011 adopted the concept of "measurement uncertainty" in the testing of metal parts for contact with skin. It defined the 3 results of testing, that is, meeting the standards, not meeting the standards and uncertainties.

"Uncertainty" means that the result is located near the 0.50 g/cm2/week of the regulatory requirements, resulting in some uncertain results being classified into "uncertainty".

The new revision simplifies the requirements of compliance, removes the "uncertainty", and the results of the nickel emission released by the REACH regulations are accurately defined: the amount of nickel released in the rear components and human piercing rings is 0.35 Pass below g/cm2/wk, and the above is Fail. Other long and direct contact components are 0.88 g/cm2/wk below Pass, and above Fail.
