China's first national standard for sportswear, GB/T21980-2008, general technical specification for professional sportswear and protective clothing (hereinafter referred to as "technical specification"), will be implemented in December 1, 2008.

The standard was issued in October this year by the State Administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine and the China National Standardization Management Committee.

This will be the first standard system of sportswear in China.

The time it came out was in the sensitive period of the domestic garment industry: a group of garment export trade, production enterprises closed down or serious losses.

As an emerging industry in the clothing industry, the sportswear industry will not only have a large cross industry relevance, but also benefit from the "National Movement" craze caused by the Beijing Olympic Games, and bear the significance of expanding domestic consumption.

In September 19th, the establishment of the national sports goods Standardization Technical Committee sportswear branch was held at Anta headquarters in Jinjiang, Fujian. Although the level of the "branch" was not very high for other industries, it was already a historic breakthrough for the sporting goods industry.

For a long time, the sportswear industry has been restricted by the limitations of scale and lack of technology, and is in the fringe position in the textile and garment industry.

Public information shows that our country has already established a more mature standard system in clothing (especially fashion) products. However, the standards in terms of basic terms, terms, safety and testing methods of sportswear products are basically blank. It is urgent to work out national standards and industry standards for sports apparel with certain foresight, pertinence and maneuverability to standardize the product quality of sports apparel industry and promote the development of the industry.

Especially in recent years, with the improvement of sports competitive level in China, higher requirements for the quality, material and technology of all kinds of sportswear have been put forward, and the market demand has already appeared.

However, at present, there are few product standards for sportswear in China. The current FZ/T73007-2002 knitted sportswear standard, FZ/T73013-2004 knitted swimsuit standard and FZ/T73020-2004 knitted casual wear product standard are too old.

With the continuous emergence of new fabrics and accessories and the special requirements for sportswear, the standards of sports apparel industry are obviously lagging behind.

The new standard specifies the technical requirements for professional sportswear and protective clothing, inspection, testing, classification, marking, packaging, pportation and storage.

The new standard applies to sportswear and protective clothing produced mainly by textile woven fabrics.

The establishment of sportswear branch will greatly enhance the independence of the industry and promote the healthy development of the industry.

Yang Shibin, director of the China Textile Industry Association and director of sportswear branch, said: "through such an organization, we can strengthen cooperation and exchange among enterprises, and build a foundation for industrial chain cooperation."

As an important achievement of the sportswear branch, the "technical specification" will help consumers change the consumption concept of sportswear and expand the market.

The industry began to shuffle and standardize the industry standard. The introduction of the "technical specification" came as a result of the rapid development of the sporting goods market.

According to the prediction of the Chinese cultural, educational and sporting goods association, the sales scale of China's domestic sporting goods market will reach about 80 billion yuan in 2008. By 2010, it is expected to become the second largest sporting goods consumer market next to the United States.

Among them, sportswear occupies a large proportion.

Take Anta as an example, the company sold 21 million 100 thousand sportswear in the first half of the year and achieved a revenue of 923 million yuan.

"Standard is the threshold, but it is also a protection". Yang Shibin stressed that once the industry standard is promulgated, it will surely raise the threshold of competition and prevent the market of products that are not up to standard.

On the other hand, the industry standard is a technical protection for the production enterprises that meet the standards, so that "competition can be carried out under a high level of environment".

It is precisely because of the participation in the formulation of industry standards can enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, in recent years, many leading sports goods companies in the country actively participate in the drafting and formulation of industry standards.

Anta has a lot of action in this respect.

It is reported that in recent years, Anta has been involved in the formulation and revision of the national standards and trade standards of many footwear and clothing every year. It is the main drafting unit of national standards such as travel shoes, basket volleyball professional sports shoes, professional sports clothing and protective appliances general technical specifications, knitted sportswear, knitted student clothing, knitted T shirts, cotton garments and other national standards, which provides strong technical support for the standardization work of the industry.

The Li Ning Co and PEAK group said that the introduction of the "technical specification" will promote the improvement of the overall technical level of the industry and realize the integration with the international market.

Prior to the founding meeting of the sportswear branch, Anta, the independent brand of China's sporting goods industry, became the "deputy director level unit". It was interpreted by the industry as "a signal of shuffle" by the leader.

An industry insider said: "since the beginning of this year, many local garment enterprises in Fujian have experienced difficulties in operation. Some enterprises are struggling with the price war without technology or brand, and this market is bound to be shuffled by leading enterprises."
