The West Coast Of Taiwan Strait Faces Challenges Of Undertaking Industrial Pfer Opportunities In Taiwan

"The track of economic development in Fujian and Taiwan is very similar and the industry complements each other. Taiwan's political parties have brought new opportunities and challenges to the people on both sides of the Straits."

This is the keynote speech delivered by the president of the Taiwan Research Association of Fujian province and the former dean and doctoral tutor of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences in the afternoon of June 17th.

Professor Yan Zheng said that from 60 to 70s last century, Taiwan's industry was mainly made of shoes, textiles and clothing, umbrellas, stone plates, bicycles, sporting goods and cultural products. After 80s, it moved to electronics, petrochemical, machinery and other industries.

The above industries in Fujian dominated in the last century and early this century, and are now moving towards electronics, petrochemical and machinery.

The economic development time between Fujian and Taiwan is about 25 years.

Professor Yan Zheng said that Taiwan's industrial upgrading was completed at the end of the last century, and that some of the electronics industry was in the leading position in the world, and the service industry was flourishing.

Large enterprises in Taiwan are well capitalized, advanced in technology and good at developing international markets.

Fujian has abundant labor resources, and a large number of laborers from the provinces and autonomous regions in the mainland come to work in Taiwan. Wages are relatively low. Compared with Taiwan, the land, water and electricity, pportation and other production factors are cheap. The mainland has a vast market and consumptive capacity is growing rapidly.

Fujian and Taiwan industries must be win-win.

At present, the situation on both sides of the Taiwan Straits is a new round of outward pfer of capital in Taiwan. Fujian is sandwiched between the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta. Infrastructure construction needs to be further accelerated to meet the shortage of talent pool in the docking of Fujian and Taiwan.

The advantages of industrial chain grafting should be strengthened, and the advantage of labor intensive is being lost.

Professor Yan said that the west coast of the Straits has risen from local decisions to central policy-making. It has highly affirmed the development of Fujian's economy and the opportunities and challenges of Taiwan's industrial pfer from the west side of the Straits.
