With no new capacity to join, the future of the acrylic industry looks bleak.

In the past 10 years, about 500 thousand capacity has been shut down, 5 years have been gone, and 900 thousand tons have come out of the market.

In 2003, the capacity reached 3 million 490 thousand tons, and dropped to 2 million 600 thousand tons in 2008.

This trend presents the following attributes.

Asian region

Less than half of its capacity was formed only 5 years ago.

The rapid growth of Asia means that capacity can be pferred from the expensive us and Europe to the low cost region of Asia.

North America and Western Europe now share less than 20% of global capacity, down from 30% in 2003.

In Asia, most of the capacity is concentrated in China.

Almost 30% of the world's capacity and 50% of Asia's capacity are in China.

In addition to Asia, the Middle East is also moving fast to take advantage of its strong upstream and downstream linkages and the geographical advantages of supplying Europe and Asian markets.

Middle East

Capacity building is growing rapidly, especially in Turkey.

The Middle East now accounts for 15% of its capacity.

Turkey is close to Europe, while Europe is a major consumer market. Turkey is also conducive to close to all raw material producing countries, such as Iran and Saudi Arabia. Therefore, ASF production in Turkey has economic benefits.
